Louçainha River Beach

Clear mountain water, forest shade and a relaxed summer day in the Serra do Espinhal.

Louçainha has two natural swimming pools, family space, picnic areas and a panoramic restaurant in a mountain setting.

01

Plan the day

Arrive earlier on hot weekends, bring suitable footwear for waterside surfaces and follow lifeguard and local fire-risk guidance. Seasonal facilities and swimming conditions should be checked before travelling.

02

What you will find

Louçainha is a mountain river beach formed around natural pools in the green Serra do Espinhal. Municipal visitor information describes a children’s area, a deeper swimming area, picnic space and a restaurant/bar with a panoramic view.

The deeper section exceeds three metres near the diving-board area. That makes it suitable for confident swimming but reinforces the need to follow on-site rules and supervise children actively around natural water.

03

A recognised bathing place

Louçainha has regularly received Blue Flag recognition and is identified by the municipality as an accessible beach. Awards and seasonal services are renewed rather than permanent, so check the current bathing-season listing if a specific facility or supervision level matters to your visit.

Accessible provision reduces barriers but does not make every natural surface level. Contact the Tourism Office in advance if you need precise information about parking, gradients, water entry or assistance.

04

Plan a calm day

Arrive earlier on hot weekends, bring shade and drinking water, and expect mobile signal and payment options to be less predictable than in a town centre. Use the picnic area responsibly and take waste away if containers are full.

Water quality, weather, fire risk and maintenance can affect access. Read on-site information even if you have visited before, and never jump or dive outside a clearly designated area.

05

Walk here from Pedra da Ferida

The PNL2 walking route links Espinhal, Pedra da Ferida and Louçainha along the Ribeira da Azenha landscape. Municipal planning documents record a 3.5-kilometre route, while the original project describes two stages: Espinhal to the waterfall area, then onward to Louçainha.

Walking the connection turns two separate attractions into one landscape story, but it also changes the day’s transport plan. Decide whether to walk out-and-back, arrange collection or use two vehicles, and check current trail conditions first.
