Municipality recognises Penela athletes

Penela’s Municipal Executive unanimously approved recognition votes for badminton player Beatriz Pires and ju-jitsu duo Duarte Gonçalves and Duarte Cristóvão.

Beatriz Pires became Category C national champion and number one in the national women’s doubles ranking. Her season also included mixed-team national runner-up, promotion to the first division for 2026, and third place in non-senior women’s doubles.

Duarte Gonçalves and Duarte Cristóvão, representing WJJC Portugal, took third place in the adult men’s duo category at the 21st Balkan Open in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, held from 10 to 13 September.
