Penela approves €1,300 for PIMA’s community work

Penela’s municipal executive approved €1,300 for PIMA — Associação de Imigrantes de Penela at its meeting on 17 August 2026. The decision, announced on 21 August, supports the association’s annual activity plan.
PIMA helps new residents understand administrative procedures and reach public services, health care and housing support. Its work also addresses language barriers, social isolation and practical integration into life in Penela.
This is direct municipal support for the association’s work. It is not a new grant, benefit or application programme for individual residents.
What the activity plan includes
The municipality highlights Mercado Glocal, the Portuguese Language Café, Clube de Croché Comunitário, Family Fun Day and regular information sessions about rights and integration. PIMA also contributes to active-ageing activities through Penela QualIdade, led by Companhia da Chanca.
Why the work matters locally
The activity plan combines practical guidance with places where long-standing and newer residents can meet. That matters because successful integration is not only about completing paperwork; it also depends on language confidence, relationships and a sense of belonging in the community.
What this announcement does not provide
The notice confirms the funding and names the main areas of work, but it does not publish new event dates, enrolment arrangements or individual-support appointments. Check current PIMA and community announcements before planning to attend a particular activity.
