Penela increases support for CDR Penelense

Penela’s municipal executive unanimously approved €40,000 in support for Clube Desportivo e Recreativo Penelense for the new sporting season.
The award is €5,000 higher than in the previous season. The municipality says the increase is paired with a commitment from the club not to raise the monthly fees paid by families.
More than 100 young athletes are involved in the club. Its senior men’s football team competes in the Coimbra Football Association’s Division of Honour, while the billiards section has about 12 athletes and two federated teams.
Where the support goes
The funding helps the club sustain youth development, senior competition and billiards activity while limiting extra pressure on household budgets. It is direct support for organised sport rather than a new public application programme.
Facilities and next steps
The municipality also provides logistical support. It has already upgraded lighting at Parque Desportivo Municipal de S. Jorge and says artificial turf, irrigation and further improvements are being prepared; no completion dates were published in this notice.
